A Pablo Etcheberry Workshop on Regenerative Grazing at Villa Lucero

This week we welcomed at Villa Lucero Pablo Etcheberry, a renowned regenerative grazing expert from Argentina, for a workshop with our team to discuss the benefits of intensive, non-selective grazing techniques and identify further improvements we can make to our grass-fed cattle operation.

This event, which involved key members of our team in Uruguay - including our three agronomists Nicolas García, Federico García, and Juan Pedro Scremini, as well as our financial controllers, Shirley Simoncelli and Lucía Ruiz - built on a very insightful seminar that our principals, Francisco and Joaquín, attended in Portugal a few weeks ago.

Our team spent two intensive days with Pablo surveying the diverse landscapes of Villa Lucero’s 9,000 hectares and meeting at the main house to discuss the cost/benefit of certain practices Pablo recommended (e.g., expanding the use of modular electrical fencing) and how to seamlessly integrate them in the farm’s existing operation.

This workshop was very beneficial to our local operation. Bringing the fresh perspective of a highly experienced regenerative grazing operator allowed us to identify further areas of improvement and concrete actions to continue making our cattle operation more efficient, sustainable, and profitable. Besides, it helped to reinforce our team’s commitment towards continuous improvement and regenerative practices.  

Insights gained from the seminar in Portugal and this workshop will now shape the next stage of the development of Villa Lucero.

In future, we plan to carry out similar workshops every six months at different properties of our portfolio and invite other cattle producers to participate, thus contributing in a small way towards improving cattle grazing practices across Uruguay.
