A peek at our flagship Uruguayan property: Estancia Villa Lucero

Villa Lucero, our flagship property with 9,004 hectares area resulting from the merger in 2009 of two adjoining properties, San José del Yaguarí (5,167 hectares) and Paso del Sauce (3,837 hectares), is without a doubt one of Uruguay’s most iconic traditional farms.

Located in the department of Tacuarembó, central Uruguay, Villa Lucero is 442 km away from Montevideo and less than 200 km from two important regional development hubs, the Rivera International Airport and UPM's Paso de los Toros paper mill.

The Property has eighteen different land plots with 89 average CONEAT productivity index. Its area is broadly split between three high level soil groups: 2,169 hectares (24.1%) of deep, highly fertile, well-drained soils; 2,230 hectares (24.8%) of medium productivity plain soils; and 4,604 hectares (51.1%) of medium to low productivity poorly drained deep soils.

Villa Lucero’s existing product mix combines a proprietary, vertically integrated, sustainable grass-fed cattle operation with 4,600 to 5,800 head, that we built from scratch in the last four years, with a portfolio of leases with third-party operators growing rainfed row crops, rice, and eucalyptus.  

The farm’s essential infrastructure includes seven houses with 35 bedrooms; four barns; a comprehensive water system (including four dams, twenty-two ponds, three water tanks, nine water troughs, and twenty kms of channels to irrigate up to 600 hectares of rice); three sets of cattle facilities (including chute, pen, corral, cattle dock, and a cattle bath); 140 km of peripheral and internal fences; 22 km of internal roads; two horse sheds and four stables; a 1,250 m airstrip with an airplane hangar; and a power grid connection.

Villa Lucero is an outstanding farmland property, with comprehensive infrastructure, excellent production potential, and substantial investment already made in development to support the intensive, efficient, and sustainable production of beef cattle, rainfed row crops, rice, and eucalyptus.
