Villa Lucero hosts Rice Money Maker competition award ceremony celebrating sustainable growing practices

On 10 June 2023, our farm, Villa Lucero, hosted the award ceremony of the second edition of the Rice Money Maker Competition.

Organised by the FieldCrops team at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - UFSM, this competition strives to identify innovative sustainability practices allowing producers to maximise their return on investment while minimising environmental impact.

The event, held at Villa Lucero by our rice tenant Santiago Ferrésgathered growers from top rice-producing regions of Brazil - Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Tocantins, as well as from Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, to celebrate their pursuit of sustainable growing practices and production efficiency. It recognised with awards those producers who mastered the most innovative, sustainable, and productive rice growing practices and concluded with the publication of an e-book titled “The Secret of Sustainability in Rice Farming - 2nd Edition”.

This e-book, which you can access here, is an excellent resource for students, producers, and other professionals in the regional agricultural sector looking to deepen their understanding of sustainability in rice farming and implement these practices on their properties.
